I experienced the most perfect dream-time a few nights ago. The experience was so sacred, breathtaking and like a fairytale I had to hold it close to me, savoring each moment. The lingering feeling was so wonderful that I decided I simply must share. I never share my dream-time right away I love to savor them, ponder their meaning or see if new enlightenment bursts on me in the days right after. This dream-time was exhilarating.I experienced life in a tree house. A real honest to goodness house "inside" a living tree. It was the most enchanting feeling ever. The tree was huge - think ancient Redwood huge times 10.
There were huge circular windows everywhere in true hobbit fashion. Window spaces the tree itself grew - yes, the tree purposefully allowed a hole to grow in itself. The house was laid out in layers. The bottom layer was all kitchen and living room. The kitchen had the best cottage style dutch door that opened out to the sweetest Mr. McGregor type garden ever. We even had a Grandma Mole lady who was our neighbor. She brought us treats she made herself. She carried a basket, wore a gingham dress with checkered handkerchief around her head and had the most adorable thick pair of tortoiseshell rimmed glasses, like a character out of Peter Rabbit or Wind in the Willows.
The adjoining living room had a huge window along one wall that gave us a view of a small neat lawn and the edge of the most impressive ancient forest ever seen. A fairytale forest with open spaces, huge trees, no brambles, dead brush or vines cluttering up the spaces between the trees. The forest was alive with all manner of animals real or magical, so green and live and sparkling with magic - like the forest in Legend.
There was plenty of headroom for even David; the ceilings were quite lofty while keeping the cozy cottage feeling. Above the living room/kitchen were the children's and guest rooms. All the beds were grown from huge knots inside the tree. Above the children's floor was a set of art and music rooms. A large wonderful room was just for David and his musical instruments to enjoy in comfort with plenty of room. And of course rooms to paint in, weave jewels, or mold clay.
The next floor was just mine and David's bedroom and yes we had the entire floor. A bed fit for a king the size of Goliath, such an ornate wooden bed. Sheer fantasy delight in the way the tree grew a bower for David and me. The bed stood high off the floor with such intricate detailed scrolling and carvings produced by the tree itself with head board and part of the side woven like vines in an open trellis style all the way to the ceiling. All armoires and wardrobe were grown by this fantastic tree for our use too.
The floor above ours was the essence of sublime in that this room too used up the whole floor and you guessed it - a library. A perfect room with deep dark wooden shelves floor to ceiling, grown courtesy of this wonderful tree. Books of all kinds from all cultures across all ages filled these wonderful shelves. There were large deep cushioned chairs throughout offering comfort and having accompanying lamps that give the perfect light to the reader. The fireplace - yes there is a HUGE one that took up a fair portion of one side. The fire burned with strange witch fires that used no wood but gave off comfort and heat. Aside from the wondrous books there was an awesome desk, grown straight from the heart of the tree - so magnificent and of the perfect height to sit and write to my heart’s content for hours.
At one end of the library was a beautiful spiral staircase - you guessed this perfect tree-house had all my favorite elements and ammenities a house should have. This wonderful staircase went up to a deck outside with a perfect view of the stars. Of course this deck not only had a fabulous telescope but was also prime cloud viewing real estate so close that in this colossus of the forest clouds nestled in its crown.
I am still in awe of this experience. I hunger for this tree-house. It had everything we needed for simple living. The tree a partner and very present roommate gave me the best peace and tranquility. I pray that I get to visit my home away from home again.
